May Meetings – Oops!

Well every once in a while you miss one; in May it was my turn.  My weekly shopping cycle conflicted with the Water & Council meetings.    I know I was missed.

However, it appears I didn’t miss much, except a strong argument by Councilman Coady against putting another $50K in the Town budget for power-pole removal.  In fact, it may be a violation of Arizona state law, but that doesn’t usually deter Carefree.  At a time when economic conditions dictate overall conservative spending, some dumb-asses continue to favor special interests.  By the way, a dumb-ass is generally considered to be a slow thinker with an improperly positioned head.  Perhaps that $50K should be earmarked for proctologist care.

Water Company and the Town budget packets were available for fiscal year 2009 (7/1/2008 – 6/30/2009).  Although still preliminary, they do reflect some restraint with a few exceptions.  A quick review reveals that the water company continues to spend (yes, there are planned rate increases described), without much effort at cost saving measures.  One curiosity that struck me is why we continue to purchase the lion’s share of our CAP water from Scottsdale when the same CAP water from Cave Creek is less expensive.  If two gas stations were pumping your grade of gas, and one was charging 52 cents more per gallon, where would you gas-up?  If your head is properly positioned the answer is clear.  Ever wonder why some Town decisions are murky?
